Biografía
Nicholas H. Smith is an associate attorney with the Xander Law Group. He has extensive criminal litigation experience, both as an assistant district attorney and as an assistant public defender in Texas.
Mr. Smith began his legal career after earning his Juris Doctor from South Texas College of Law in 2014. After graduation Mr. Smith worked for a private firm in Houston, Texas managing estate planning and probate matters, real estate transactions, and criminal defense. In 2016 Mr. Smith became an assistant district attorney in the rural Texas county of Matagorda. During his time in Matagorda, Mr. Smith was responsible for misdemeanor, juvenile, and felony offenses, managing caseloads from intake to trial. In 2019 Mr. Smith left the District Attorney’s Office to become an assistant public defender in Houston, Texas. As a public defender, Mr. Smith was responsible for misdemeanor cases appointed to him in Harris County where the client had some mental health need or concern and was unable to afford an attorney. Doing this work allowed Mr. Smith to familiarize himself with the intricacies of the competency statutes in Texas and to better learn and understand the relationship between our criminal justice system and the mental health needs of our country.
Mr. Smith prides himself on his excellent client communication skills and his ability to negotiate. Since joining the Xander Law Group in 2021, Mr. Smith has been responsible for the Firm’s criminal docket, as well as different civil, family, and post-conviction cases.
